Bio packaging - With tomorrow's world in mind

Environmental consciousness is a top priority at Flextrus when developing packaging solutions. We believe in a renewable future with maximized use of bio-based raw materials without reducing the recyclability of the packaging or risking the product quality and consumer safety.

Many packaging materials can be constructed in exactly the same way as today but with renewable plastics and paper. Why not go for a paper based high barrier pouch with more than 90% renewable content or an attractive paper tray for processed meat made of 85% certified sustainable fiber? Explore the bright world of green packaging from Flextrus.

What are bioplastics?

Bioplastics are made using renewable feedstocks rather than being derived directly from oil. Some are compostable, such as PLA, while others, for example PET and PE, are durable and hence recyclable.

PET and PE from renewable raw materials are chemically identical to the fossil based conventional polymers. The only difference is that plant based sources are used instead. This means that it does not risk to contaminate existing recycling streams and the functionality of the packaging remains unchanged.

Bio-based packaging

Flextrus offers a wide range of flexible packaging which can be produced from renewable materials in an optimised process. This results in thin, tight and light packaging ensuring minimal food waste with optimised use of bio-based raw materials in the consumer packs.

Some recent examples include our paper-based packaging solutions, like PaperLite® and Fibrecote® which can be made of up to >90% renewable materials. All of our paper-based packaging materials are sourced from sustainable forests and we are FSC®-certified (license code C-068028). Also our high barrier plastic lidding films, such as Ecobar®, are available with high renewable content.

With bio-based packaging for your products, the environmental challenges become a winning opportunity!
