Reduced meat pack leaker rate at Nordic brand owner
Superstrong PA/PE material from Flextrus UK improves pack integrity and reduces waste.
Following a request from a major meat producer in the Nordic region in early 2010, Flextrus’ UK factory in Highbridge has started supplying PA/PE base webs to several production sites. Chris Flaherty, Product Manager, recently visited one of the customer sites together with Michael Sjoberg, Technical Sales Manager and comments:
“In the request from our customer the production manager for the site, where they process hundreds of pigs a day, commented on the number of spoilt packs produced when processing bone in products like ribs. They were running at a pack leaker rate of around 15% with their previous packaging material, as the sharp bones were puncturing the base web. With over 20 years’ experience of PA/PE materials, we acted quickly to develop a new, super tough specification that has reduced the number of rejected packs significantly, saving on both packaging waste and man hours.”
“During our visit we were given a full factory tour, starting at where the pigs are slaughtered and ending at the packaging lines where every bit of the pig is used and nothing goes to waste. It is an impressive operation and I would like to think this is the start of a long and successful partnership between Flextrus and the customer”, concludes Michael Sjöberg.
